The Faculty Learning and Teaching Fellow
At the end of 2006, UNSW resolved to appoint Learning and Teaching Fellows in each of the University’s Faculties. The role of the Fellow is to ‘provide support, advice and practical assistance to the Associate Dean Education, teaching teams and individuals in the Faculty in relation to the achievement of high priority learning and teaching goals/initiatives’. The main duties of the fellow are:
- To draw on Carrick & other discipline based curriculum innovation projects to support learning & teaching in the faculty
- To promote and support applications for Faculty, UNSW & national Learning & Teaching grants and awards by the staff
- To initiate and promote research on learning and teaching in relation to high priority Faculty learning & teaching goals
- To meet regularly to share with other fellows, emerging issues & resources and to support collaborative problem solving
- To advise Learning & Teaching of faculty requirements that may benefit from central support
- To be supported by centrally funded Learning & Teaching faculty liaison teams with expertise in curriculum development including graduate attributes, new learning & teaching developments, (including online innovations that enhance student learning) and student learning support staff
- Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that their actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of others in the university Principle accountabilities.
The Academic Learning & Teaching Fellow will assist in the advancement of learning & teaching in their faculty & the identification & dissemination of good practice. The role may involve:
- Guiding teaching teams on course design and the integration of mixed modes of delivery
- Providing support for new academics and sessional staff
- Facilitating workshops within the faculty on learning & teaching priority areas of the faculty e.g. revising the BA
- Advising Associate Dean of Education on Learning & Teaching matters
